  • Details of Disappearance
Janis Sanders was last seen leaving work at Pete's Patio Restaurant in Niles on August 5, 1975.

A week prior to her disappearance, Janice had left her boyfriend, Gerald Libertowski, and moved back in with her parents in Niles, MI.

When Janis left work the evening of August 5, Libertowski followed her out. Libertowski was described by witnesses as "acting like a mad man". She has never been seen again.

Libertowski spent seven months in jail in 1976, charged with the murders of Janis Sanders and Janice Langs, another girlfriend who disappeared in 1973. He was freed after a judge dismissed the charges. Foul play is suspected.
