    Scales was last seen in her bed as 12:30 a.m. on September 5, 2001. She was discovered missing at 3:00 a.m. Social service workers removed Jaquilla's 2-year-old brother from the Scales' home not long after she disappeared, at police request. Officers said they were concerned about the living conditions and about Jaquilla's disappearance.
