  • Details of Disappearance
Kelsie Schelling was last seen on February 4, 2013, in Pueblo, Colorado. She had just learned she was pregnant and had driven from her home in Denver to Pueblo to see her boyfriend, Donthe Lucas, when she vanished. The last text message Kelsie ever sent was to Donthe Lucas at 12:32 in the morning on February 5, 2013 asking where he was and "complaining that she had been waiting for over an hour for him."

Video released by the Pueblo Police Department shows a person driving Kelsie's car out of the Walmart parking lot. A few days later, her vehicle was found in the parking lot of St. Mary-Corwin Hospital in Pueblo. Surveillance footage showed the car had been parked there since February 7. Schelling’s phone records showed that she was in Pueblo until at least February 7. That’s when police said the cell phone battery died. It has not been turned on since then.

Investigators say Donthe Lucas was arrested a short time later, after using her bank card. The charges were later dropped as was not uncommon that she had given him permission in the past to use the card. Foul play is suspected.

Schelling parents — Doug Schelling and Laura Saxton — in 2015 filed a U.S. District Court suit alleging police obstructed the investigation of her disappearance and lied to them about evidence. The suit was filed against police and Lucas. The suit also contends Lucas caused Kelsie Schelling’s death.
