Details of Disappearance
It is believed that Frank killed Teresa, the left her in a garbage bin to be dumped in a landfill. Frank told police that there was a confrontation in the bedroom on February 25, and that he pushed his wife, who hit her head on the headboard of the bed. Her remains were kept in the trunk of their car for a period of days. Frank stated that he put Teresa's body into garbage bags, and then disposed of the remains in a dumpster in an alley. He then discarded other bloodied items in various areas in metro Denver. Then, he tried to commit suicide in his home with carbon monoxide. His 15-year-old daughter was home at the time, and became very ill; Frank was charged with attempted murder of his daughter after this fact was revealed.
On Monday, May 7, 2007, Frank pleaded guilty to second-degree murder related to Teresa's disappearance. In exchange for the plea, prosecutors dropped charges of first-degree murder and attempted murder. Police have searched at least two landfills in the area, but have not recovered Teresa's remains.
Teresa was last seen at her residence in the vicinity of the 9500 block of W. Chenango Ave. in Denver, Colorado on February 24, 2006. She was reported missing by her employer when she didn't show up for work the next day. Her husband, Frank Schilt, disappeared on March 14, 2006, but was later arrested in Danville, Arkansas on burglary and trespassing charges. He was attempting to commit suicide when officers found him.
August 2007 Frank was sentenced to 44 years in prison.
