  • Details of Disappearance
Melissa was last seen in the mid-morning of August 21, 2006 in the vicinity of I-20 and Hwy 17 in Webster City, Iowa. The previous day, she had been stopped by the Iowa State Patrol and had her car impounded. Melissa checked in at the Super 8 Motel and spent the night. Family members went to pick her up, but Melissa, apparently delusional, said she didn't know them, and the family couldn't force her to come with them. The following day, she told motel staff she was going to take a bus, but later checking showed that she had never purchased a bus ticket. It is believed that Melissa may have been hitchhiking. There are no obvious signs of foul play.
