Vital Statistics at Time of Disappearance
Details of Disappearance
In December 1995, Shaw vanished from her Manassas home. Her longtime boyfriend, Walter Godbey, at the time told police that she abandoned him and their two children and went back to her native Philippines to live with her mother. Shaw’s sister told detectives that she didn’t have a passport and that her mother had died years ago. Police found Shaw’s birth certificate, Social Security card, driver’s license, credit cards and pictures of her children hidden in boxes under a stairway in Godbey’s house.
Walter Godbey pleaded guilty in 2010 to voluntary manslaughter for his role in the 1995 slaying of Ann Marie Shaw.
Godbey, who is currently serving 30 years for the murder of Washington AOL executive Douglass Small, was sentenced to 10 additional years in prison after the plea in Prince William County Circuit Court. Godbey told police that Shaw's body was dismembered and the torso of the body was buried in a wooded Fairfax park. However, a search for the body part was unsuccessful.
