  • Details of Disappearance
Tatyana was last seen at approximately 5:00 p.m. scuba diving from a boat in the Crocker Reef area just southeast of Islamorada, FL. Part of her diving apparatus was picked up by fishermen 13 days later in the Florida Bay.

She was diving with a buddy at the time of her disappearance. The dive buddy said the two of them were diving in approximately 40 feet of water late in the afternoon Sunday at Crocker Reef. He said they surfaced to check the location of the dive boat, and realized it was time to return to the boat. He said they began swimming back and he got a little ahead of Smirnov. He looked back to check on her and could not locate her. He then realized he was too far from the boat to make it back on his own.

Shortly before 6 p.m., the dive boat reported two missing divers. The Coast Guard responded, along with officers from the Fish and Wildlife Commission and the Sheriff’s Night Star helicopter. The dive buddy was found floating, in good condition. There was no sign of Smirnov.
