Details of Disappearance
Dashad Smith, also known as Sage - was last seen on November 20, 2012, walking along West Main Street near the Amtrak station in Charlottesville. Smith left an apartment on Harris Street walking toward the West Main Street area to meet an acquaintance, Erik Tyquan McFadden. Smith was last seen near the intersection of West Main Street at 4th Street NW at 6:30 PM, talking on a cell phone. Smith's phone records indicate the cell phone communications stopped shortly after this last sighting on West Main Street. Smith has not been seen or heard from since.
McFadden left Charlottesville shortly after Smith was reported missing. McFadden called an investigator a few days later. McFadden told police that the meeting never happened. He told them he was in New York but would be returning to Charlottesville to speak with them the following day. McFadden never returned and has not been seen since. Information received during the investigation suggests McFadden has traveled south, possibly to South Carolina and Georgia. McFadden has not been charged with or accused of a crime, but police would like to speak with him again.
Smith was reported as missing by his roommate when he didn't come or answer his phone. He usually kept in touch with family and friends every day.
Police have conducted extensive searches along West Main Street where he was last seen, around UVA, and at a Richmond landfill.
Smith is a 2011 Charlottesville High School graduate. He is openly gay and frequently dressed as a woman.
