Vital Statistics at Time of Disappearance
Details of Disappearance
Lauren Susann Smith, 22, was last seen on November 21 when she was dropped off at a home on Oak Ridge Lane in the Leon area where she regularly cleaned houses. On the day in question though, it appeared she entered the home off Tryme Road near Leon, but she didnít clean it.
Another resident of her home on Tennants Church Road later reported her missing. Police were concerned because a small caliber pistol was discovered missing from the home Smith had been set to clean. That home at the time was the residence of Kenneth Kuban, who was sentenced in Novemeber to federal prison in a sex ad stalking case that authorities say is unrelated to Smithís disappearance. Smith had regularly worked in Kuban's home as part of her job with a cleaning service. The person that dropped her off at work the morning of her disappearance has taken a polygraph test and passed.
A still image from a surveillance camera at a Culpeper convenience store captured her picture on the afternoon of November 21, 2011. Smith is reported to have possibly been carrying a large sum of money that day to possibly purchase a car, but she apparently didnít take any possessions with her except a cell phone.
Since then, police have received a number of tips, including one that she was seen hitchhiking on Route 29 before getting into a car. There hasnít been any cell phone activity since the day she disappeared or activity from her bank card.
Smith earned an associateís degree from Germanna Community College and completed a few semesters at Longwood University in Farmville.
