  • Details of Disappearance
Miguel was last seen on Friday, June 19, 2009 at 10.30 by his brother at their business. He was seen around lunch time, June 19, by an acquaintance who had paid Soto a $2,000 to $3,000 horse racing debt.

His vehicle was found abandoned on the mesa west of Belen in Valencia County on the same day. Detectives found nothing suspicious in Soto's truck.

Soto owned an auto detailing business in the South Valley. He frequented race tracks throughout the state. Detectives believe Soto spent a lot of time at the "match race" track on the Pajarito Mesa near Santa Clara Pueblo. Soto also raced his horses at legitimate tracks throughout the state, including in Ruidoso and Farmington. The possibility of illegal gambling raises the level of concern over Soto's disappearance.

He had no criminal history, other than a dozen traffic tickets and a conviction for being a minor in possession of alcohol in 1997.
