  • Details of Disappearance
Stobaugh, the mother of two, was last seen on December 28, 2004 in Sanger, Texas. Stobaugh drove to the home she had shared with her husband, Charles, for more than 20 years to discuss their divorce. She filed for divorce from her husband in May 2004 and obtained a restraining order against him in June 2004.

They disagreed on how they would split the estimated $1 million property, and Charles Stobaugh said she left angry.
Charles Stobaugh initially cooperated with the investigation, but has since revoked his permission to search his property in northwest Denton County.

Katherine's car was found in his driveway and was impounded by the sheriff’s office. An individual told authorities he had seen a person walk from the opposite side of the road to the Stobaugh property around 9:30 p.m. either on the day Stobaugh went missing or on the day after she went missing.

Katherine was not reported missing until January 3, 2005. According to court records her teenage daughter reported her missing. Stobaugh had discouraged his daughter from contacting police, saying Katherine had simply gone off with someone else.

The Denton County Sheriff's Office and the Texas Rangers searched the property and never found a trace of her. Foul play is suspected.

Charles Stobaugh was convicted of killing his estranged wife Kathy Stobaugh in 2011. A second appeals court overturned the conviction in 2014. The Texas 2nd Court of Appeals overturned the verdict citing lack of physical evidence against Stobaugh including a body or DNA.
