Andrew “Andy” Viater is a U.S. Navy Veteran who was last seen at his family’s home in Ashland, Wisconsin on January 22, 1980.

There was a blizzard covering the Ashland, Wisconsin area with snow on the night of January 21 and into January 22, 1980. Around 4:00 AM on January 22, 1980, Andrew’s father heard the front door of their Ashland home slam shut. Andrew’s father looked outside and saw footprints in the snow. Curious, he followed the footprints in the fresh snow leading off the front porch and down the sidewalk. The footprints then turned right towards the railroad tracks where they suddenly stopped. Andrew’s father was unable to locate any other footprints leading anywhere else from the tracks.

Andrew Viater was being treated for psychological problems that he suffered during his time in the U.S. Navy.
