Vital Statistics at Time of Disappearance
Details of Disappearance
Rebecca Ann Ware was last heard from by family members on Friday, 29th October 2010. She hasn’t been seen since she left her job at St. Augustine’s Hydro America aluminum company that day. There was no sign of Ware at her St. Johns County home. Her purse was missing from her home, and her phone, with its screen smashed in, was left on the coffee table. A few days later, her car was found in the Wildwood Publix parking lot nearby. She was reported missing by family members November 2, 2010.
Rebecca had a history of abusive relationships and three children. She was planning on moving the weekend she went missing.
The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office would eventually name Ware's ex-boyfriend, Timothy Johnson, as a person of interest in the case. Johnson spent 17 years in prison for a separate case in 1991, for charges including attempted first-degree murder and kidnapping. Before that, he served another three years in prison for a 1988 sexual battery case. He was arrested on a second-degree murder charge in 2012. Although Rebecca has never been found, evidence revealed foul play and linked Johnson to her presumed death. Johnson and Ware had separated shortly before she went missing. Witnesses saw Ware and Johnson arguing at her residence on Oct. 29, 2010, and that it appeared as if Rebecca was trying to get away from Johnson.
In January 2016 Timothy Lee Johnson, Ware’s ex-boyfriend, pleaded guilty to a charge of second-degree murder and accepted a sentence of 19 years in prison — minus the 1,228 days he’s served in the county jail. Johnson admitted in the interview that he committed several violent acts against Ware, including hitting her, choking her and throwing a phone at her head.
