Details of Disappearance
Norman Welsh, who was 31, was vacationing with his mother in Sturgeon Falls when the OPP found him walking on the highway on July 18. Police brought him to the general hospital in Sturgeon Falls out of concern for his safety. From there he was transferred to the former North Bay Psychiatric Hospital. Welsh was upset and demanded to be released, stating that he wished to go back home to St. Catharines.
The following day, nursing staff escorted him outside between hospital buildings where he walked toward a wooded area. He was last seen running toward the bush.
North Bay police officers and hospital staff conducted several searches of the hospital grounds but came up empty.
