Vital Statistics at Time of Disappearance
Details of Disappearance
Bruce was last seen at approximately 2:30am at his residence in the vicinity of N. Frost and Gratiot Rd. in Saginaw, MI. Bruce, a 44-year-old Saginaw Township husband and father of a 12-year-old son, disappeared July 6 after his wife woke him up to go to work. Whelton wasn't scheduled to work the morning he vanished. An avid hunter and fisherman, relatives say Whelton placed a call about 4 a.m. but have no further information.
His bicycle, described as a older model red Schwinn with upright handlebars and 10 speed style tires, is also missing. Whelton did not take his wallet or his contact lenses.
Whelton had dedicated 27 years to Meijer Inc., working up to the position of customer service manager at the Thomas Township store.
Family members don't know if Whelton harmed himself or was the victim of foul play or some undetected health problem. They don't know if he took anything from his extensive supply of hunting weapons, although nothing appears missing. They don't know if he was depressed.
The search for Bruce Whelton took police, firefighters, friends and family members to remote areas of Saginaw County, including the Shiawassee National Wildlife Refuge, to no avail.
