Details of Disappearance
Verla Winter was reported missing by her husband on October 21, 1968. He said that she left during the night of October 12/13, 1968 after an argument, because she did not want him to stay. They had been living apart for awhile. She left behind two young children. According to her husband she took her belongings and $400 she kept in the home. Her family reported that they had frequent contact with the victim via the phone and mail prior to her disappearance, but since then all contact has ceased.
Acting on a tip from a woman in Kent, in 1973 the original case was reopened and police dug out a large planter box at Ms. Winter's last residence. Nothing was found.
