Robertson Winters, of Overland Park, Kansas, was involved in a witnessed rafting accident in the Willamette River near Eugene Oregon and is presumed drowned. Winters and two friends decided to raft the river from Eugene to Portland. They put in at the Owens Rose Garden about 3 p.m. with two light-duty rafts and an air mattress. As they passed through Coburg at about 8 p.m., their rafts overturned, throwing all three into the water, which was 48.2 degrees. The other two rafters made it out alive. Witnesses said the third man, Winters, was bobbing up and down in the water, yelling for help before he vanished. He was not wearing a a life jacket.
