  • Details of Disappearance
Kaidena "Kay" Wood was reported missing on July 30, 2011. The Wood home was destroyed by fire and autopsy tests have confirmed the remains of the deceased male found on July 31, 2011 in the burned home are that of 79 year old James 'Bill' Wood. Autopsy results also indicate Bill Wood died of multiple gun shot wounds. The manner of death is considered homicide.

The Wood's red 2009 Chevy Silverado pickup was recovered at an apartment complex on North Donnelly Avenue in Kansas City, Missouri on July 31, 2011. A witness reported seeing a man walking away from the truck, and a police sketch of a slender white man in his late 40s to early 60s with short gray and white hair has been circulated as a person of interest.

The fire may have been set to cover up Wood’s murder. The weapon has not been recovered.

The couple was last seen the morning of July 30, a Saturday, at an auction house in Stuart. Family members have said Bill and Kay Wood enjoyed collecting antiques, and they speculate robbery could have been a motive. It’s difficult to tell whether anything was stolen because the home was destroyed by fire.
