  • Details of Disappearance
Paula Worcester was last seen in person, by her family, on June 18, 2014. Paula's sister reported her missing to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office on July 4, 2014.

Paula lived with her common law husband, Joseph “Joey” Poe III, and his children at the time of her disappearance. Joey Poe was the last person to see Worcester, and according to police, is a suspect in her disappearance. Poe has a history of abusive and violent behaviour.

Poe claims he would often get angry with Worcester, but he never got violent, despite accounts from detectives and Worcester’s sister. Poe said the last time he saw his wife, they were arguing. According to him, they were driving to Bessemer when she got out at a service station, and he drove off and left her.

Poe told his daughters they got into an argument and they broke up, and he dropped her off at her sister.

The only traces of Paula were found in the form of documents bearing her personal information. They were strewn on the side of the road, about a mile-and-a-half from the family’s home.

When police tired to interview him after Paula's disappearance Poe led them on a high-speed chase into Blount County, where he resisted arrest. Poe is serving a two-year prison sentence, after pleading guilty to charges connected to the chase. He has not been xharged with Paula's disappearance.
