Details of Disappearance
Yerex left the airport in a Cessna Twin Engine 402 on May 27, 1987 with a flight plan to go to Marsh Harbour in the Bahamas. Yerex was the only one aboard. His last confirmed contact was over Nassau in the Bahamas, he was ready to descend into Marsh Harbour. A Coast Guard search found no evidence of a crash.
The last radio transmission from Richard Yerex, of North Palm Beach, may have come about 1 1/2 hours after the Aero Coach flight disappeared. An unidentified fellow Aero Coach pilot, flying near Marsh Harbor on the Bahamas island of Abaco about 10:30 a.m., briefly heard Yerex`s voice on the radio. The transmission was interrupted in mid-sentence.
